Hi. I'm moving to a new house in a few days and I'm a little worried that our router, which will be located on the bottom floor of the three floor house, won't reach(Or at least, won't be anymore than poor strength) my desktop and game systems in my room on the third floor. So I was considering getting a wifi range extender and setting that up in my room, but unfortunately I have no idea what kind I should get. It needs to be strong since it seems signals of any kind have a hard time getting into that house. Inside the house you can't even get cell service(Something we're rectifying with AT&T's Microcell... we hope.) so I'm worried that a wifi signal will have just as much of a problem reaching me through two floors, multiple walls, and at an angle.

If anyone has any sort of suggestions I'm all ears.

My recommendation is don't. Wifi range extenders and gaming are a poor combination.

Use powerline networking to bring the network up to your area and then connect the gaming computer with an eithernet cable. You could add wifi to, if needed, but eithernet is best for gaming.

The best performing powerline will be AV2 1200 or AV2 2000. They don't always work satisfactorily, so buy from a seller with a customer friendly return policy in case they do not work in you situation. Buy when you have time to work with them and install right away so you can trouble shoot problems before the return period expires.

But also investigate running an ethernet cable from the router to your area of the house. It may be easier than you think.

Good earlier suggestion on using powerline networking.

Another option you can consider in that line of Powerline is de.Light (www.xy-connect.com), they provide light bulb as wireless access point.

It brings the speed from router all the way to wherever the bulb is using lighting system in the house, so it removes the need for all cables or power sockets. Check it out more on their website, they indeed have an interesting concept that you might be interested to try!
