Should I upgrade from an i7 870 2.93Ghz?

So my doub is this one.

I have a 1st gen (Nehalem) i7 870 @ 2,93Ghz and a GTX 750.

I don't know if it's worth to update to an i7 6700k with a complete full new build.
The fact is that the i7 870 seems to run decently with some of the new titles (gaming), but the GPU is holding me back for sure. Some newer games seems that I don't match the minimum CPU requeriments.

My fear is that if I get a better GPU (for example R9 Fury Nitro/ GTX 970 or GTX 1060) the old CPU and MOBO, etc would bottleneck the GPU, then making the component upgrade not worth.

Is it pointless to get a GPU of that caliber in such an old CPU? Should I go for a new build from scratch?

It's fine. For games that are heavily CPU bound (ARMA2/3 or any multiplayer game with a large player number, or RTS's like Starcraft 2) the CPU is the determining factor for the max FPS, but for games that rely way more on the GPU that i7 isn't a bottleneck.
