Hello there!

Last year, I decided to spend my first summerjob paycheck on upgrading my PC. I've though about what parts needed to be replaced the most, so I settled on buying a new GPU, namely the GTX 970.

This year, I'm thinking about doing the same thing again, but this time I'll be trying to replace my CPU. I'm really new to PC building and understand very little, so please excuse any of my PC illiteracy.

First of all, I though it'd be very easy choosing a new CPU, but the more I looked into it, the more difficult it got for me. Seeing as the majority of my PC parts are utter garbage nowadays, and that with the replacement of the CPU, I'll also be needing to replace my motherboard as well as RAM. This is where I ask you to help me with my dilemma.

Enough with the jibber jabber, here are my specs, budget and my hardware wishlist.

Right now my specs look like this:

  • MSI GTX 970 (100ME Edition)
    i750 overclocked @ 3.2GHz
    12 GBs of DDR3 RAM
    Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3

What I'm looking to replace:

  • My current CPU with a better one. I have my eyes on the Intel i5 6600K
My current memory with 16GBs of DDR4 RAM
My current motherboard with one that has a 1151 socket

My budget:

I want to fit in under $500 if plausible, but I'd like to save as much money as possible. Please, keep in mind that the prices of the parts may vary, as I live in The Czech Republic (Central Europe).

I have several questions:

  • Which CPU would you recommend out of these two: i5 4690K x i5 6600K ?

Is either of them a solid choice for me?

Are these CPUs compatible with DDR3 RAM?

Which CPU/MoBO/RAM would you recommend considering my budget?

Thanks for reading this wall of a text. Hopefully, I've given all the relevant information that you need. If not, please ask away, I'll make sure to respond to your questions.

Looking good! The price equivalent is about $503 in my country, but that's okay. Thanks for the guidance! :)

So the retailer just emailed be that the MoBo is out of stock. :/

Should I wait for them to restock this one or could you please recommend me a different MoBo?
