Hi all,

Just got a rx480 as it looked particularly good so thought I'd try it. Card is brilliant and is working perfectly fine. Fan in my case is okay and have adequate air flow. Question is my temps whilst gaming are around 78-85 degrees. Max temps it's ever hit is 89. Now this is concerning me however a couple of my friends have the same card and there's is doing more or less exactly the same thing. Just wondering are these temperatures safe and if anyone else has this card could they shine some light on the issue

Thanks

Regards

Matt

Solution
The reference 480 has a very basic cooler. They keep the fan speed a bit lower(not calling it quiet) at the cost of higher temperatures.

A bit of case air flow may bring it down a bit, but mid 80's is normal for that card under load.
1. Hopefully, you didn't buy a reference 6 pin card \ not recommended for either nVidia or AMD.

2. Tempos vary by manufacturer

Asus Strix - 39 dbA / 68C load OC'd
MSI Gaming - 32 dbA / 73C load under OC

If it isn't obvious, the vendors took a different approach to default fan speeds ... MSI went for low noise, figuring temps are fine in low 70s... Asus went for low temp bragging rights.

Fortunately, you can adjust the fan curve with MSI Afterburner.
