Power supply cable with letter "N" on its plug... What is it?

Hi guys,

So I'm replacing my old power supply with a SeaSonic SS-300TFX, and I noticed that one of the two disk power cables (for HDD, CD, etc.) has the letter N printed on its end plug (see linked pic).

The cables look identical but for the marking. So which one do I use for the hard drive and which one do I use for the optical drive? Does the "N" have any significance one way or the other? I wouldn't want to accidentally connect the cables incorrectly and create a problem.

My previous PSU does not have this marking on either of its such cables (although the unused end plug on the CD cable is smaller than the middle plug used by the disc drive).

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

An AMP connector is an AMP connector, they should all be wired the same and be interchangeable. The 'N' could be to denote a connector that gets 12V power from a different current limit rail than the others but you shouldn't need to worry about that.

I would not worry to much, in your picture you posted, holding the cables in your hand.
The cable ends look like two Sata power connectors.

All cable ends or plugs are keyed, that means they will only ever fit in to a device such as a hard drive or an optical based drive that is also Sata, or has the same connections one way round to keep the voltage needed in the right direction for the device. as long as the wiring on both match in the colour order from left to right of each wire of the cable into the block it will work fine with no problems at all imagazzell.

As for the letter or marking on one plug end, the connector it will make little difference.

All the plug ends as said as well of the shape of them prevents the power plug from being plugged to the wrong device, and keeps the voltage wiring the correct way around for each cable.
