I read on another site that Nvidia Volta GTX 11xx releases in 2017?

The Pascals were just released, how could they release the next-gen cards only a year after the the previous generation?

Solution

Pascal GP100 for tesla did get HBM2 treatment. also nvidia will do what is the most logical for them to do. games in general are not bottlenecked by bandwidth right now. this is just my pure speculation but it seems HBM progress are slow. the first HBM are limited to 4GB capacity only while HBM2 can't come soon enough. and so far SK Hynix only talking about HBM2 4GB. did they have issues with larger capacity than that?
Bit of a tricky one that, But the usual pecking order as you know with Nvidia is to release a top of the line card such as the GTX 1080. And then follow it up with a GTX 1080 Ti version with more graphics horse power.

I would think Nvidia would want to get there money`s worth out of selling the two cards for at least the next few months.
Before even giving Joe public the Volta range of GTX gpu cards first Ambam.

When it says 2017, it will most likely be positioned at the end of 2017. Slotted in for release just before Xmas.
Would be the most ideal time to launch the new Volta based cards.
For the holiday season.

nvidia have HPC contract to fullfill in 2017 using volta. but it doesn't mean consumer will get volta in 2017. some site (like wccftech for example) using this info to speculate volta will coming out in 2017. the next series could end up being pascal rebrands with the high ends finally getting GP102. logically nvidia have no reason to rush out volta when AMD still don't have the parts that can compete with GTX1080 and the new titan x.

Yeah that is what I was sort of getting at, along with making the most out of the prices for a GTX 1080 card and the 1080 Ti version if Nvidia release one.

Plus as you state there is no real competition from AMD at the moment till the Vega Graphics card is released to market.
That`s why I figured around the back end of 2017 before Nvidia provide a working Volta card to joe public Renz.

Usually there is about a 2 to 2 1/2 year gap between each generation of GPU.

Would seem kind of odd for the next-gen Volta's to be released only one year after Pascal.

I can't see the Volta being available until maybe late 2018 early 2019.

initially pascal did not exist in nvidia roadmap. volta was supposed to succeed maxwell. but there are things that they could not done in time if they push volta in 2016 (i suspect it was HPC related stuff) so they push volta further and add pascal into their roadmap. personally i'd expect consumer version of volta to available in early to mid 2018.
