I'd like to know some general rules about the pagefile and whether I should disable it or not.

My Rig:

FX6300
8GB RAM DDR3
Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 motherboard
Onboard ATI Radeon HD 3000 video
500W PSU

Disabling the swapfile might not be a good idea since some software may misbehave if it attempts to reserve memory against the swapfile and it isn't there. With only 8GB RAM, you may be too low on RAM to afford that without running into issues with being low on RAM anyway.

I'd go with 8GB fixed (min=max) size. If you leave the size on dynamic, Windows will waste tons of time resizing it just for kicks.
