why is my FPS low

Hello everyone , i hope you are all having a good day. i was just wondering why am i getting frame drops / low fps (25-30 fps) in some games that i play such as over-watch and chivalry

my specs are :

graphics card : GeForced GTX 1070

CPU : intel core i5-4690K cpu at 3.50GHz

OS : windows 10 64 bit

Ram: DDR3 2x4gb and 1x8GB (16GB total)

MB : GIGABYTE Z97-D3H ATX W/ REALTEK GBLAN 6X SATA 6GB CROSSFIREX

PSU: corsair CX750M — 750 Watt 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Modular ATX PSU

Are you recording? What game is it? Is v-sync on? What settings are you running on? Is the game cracked? If so that's because cracked games are harder to run.

You're using an Nvidia card.

Try using ShadowPlay to record your gameplay.


Failing that, you can always open the resource monitor and the monitoring page of GPU-z and see what is spiking.


Also, what device are you recording to?

If you're using FRAPS (don't use FRAPS, it records like 20Gb per second of video), So if it's the video skipping it could be the drive you're recording to.

hello guys. Im not recording anything. Im just playing these games regularly and getting these low fps numbers. Also , v-sync is off and the setting are usually put on high.

Sorry, derp. I don't know why I thought you were recording. (it was a long day yesterday.)

I'd suggest running an industry-standard benchmark in order to compare your system against others.

Userbenchmark should give an indication if the various components of your computer are under performing against other people with the same components.

hey guys thanks for all the help. It turns out the main two reasons my games were having such low fps are the 4x2 and 8 gb sticks having problems with eachother and a system reset had to be done.
