Hello! As of writing this, I currently have two broken computers, both of which I have been unable to fix. One is a laptop, the other is a tower. Any help in fixing either of these would be much appreciated!

The Laptop: My laptop is still usable, but runs extremely slow, no matter what I'm trying to launch. I haven't been able to fix it, but I have two suspects in hand. To begin with, when this started, I had just downloaded a game of of Steam. I was looking for cheaper games, and settled on Stronghold HD. Something about this file might have effected my computer, but I have been unable to uninstall it due to how absolutely slow the computer is running. The second suspect isn't one item in particular, but rather the fact that my Disk Usage is always capped at 100%. I don't know how to lower this, nor have I found a guide that has helped.

The Tower: This ones been gone for a few months, but I've kept in a safe place so everything should still be okay. I made a thread on it before, yet didn't get an answer that helped. The issue I'm having with the tower is that whenever I boot it up, I get an error message. I don't remember exactly what it says, but it mentions a software or hardware update might have been the cause. I've tried to launch it both normally, and in repair mode, but neither work. Normal bootup sends me right back to the error message, and repair mode just loads indefinitely. Also, I have changed the boot order and disabled some other aspects, can't quite remember what I also have a few suspects for this one. First off, I had recently installed iTunes to try and get some music from my old account. That shouldn't be the issue, but the crash happened the next time I booted my computer sooooo. Secondly, I had tried to install a new GPU, however my PSU was unable to provide for it. This might be the "hardware update" the error message was talking about. Lastly, I had plugged in an old iPod to charge. No idea how this would effect the computer, but it might have played a part.

Anyways, that's all the information I have outside of specs. Any help would be greatly appreciated seeing as I'm stuck using a friend's computer to even make this thread. If you have any question feel free to ask them in the chat and I'll attempt to get back to you ASAP! Thanks again!

Replacing the hard drive with a ssd on a laptop brings wonderful performance improvement.

You may be infected with malware.
Fun malwarebytes free edition to clean that up.

On the desktop side, see if you can't use system restore to reset the pc to a time when all was good.
Boot in safe mode with F8 if you can.
Or boot a windows dvd otherwise.

I've been trying as hard as I can to use malwarebytes, I've used it plenty of times before just to be safe on some files, but now I can't get it on my laptop, and I'm having a few issues getting it on a USB, but I'm still trying. As far as the SSD goes, I still have a car to pay off, and insurance, so I don't quite have the money right now. And even if I did, I'm planning on saving up for an actual gaming PC, something around maybe 800-900.

As far as the desktop goes, I haven't attempted a system restore yet, no idea why I never even thought about it. I believe I attempted safe mode, but it had the same issue as normal or repair, again, can't remember, been a while. But I will try that again. And if all else fails I will go out and get the windows DVD, don't have one right now. It might be a bit before I can get back with results however, let my brother borrow my monitor I used and he's currently gone, so I'll have to wait until he gets back to ask to have it back for a bit. Thank you for the ideas though!

Hard drive is dying in the laptop, replace it with a new drive or an SSD.

Desktop simply needs to be re-formatted. Formatting is always easier than troubleshooting and trying to repair an issue. (especially when you don't know what that issue is.)

Okay, I'll be honest, first time I've ran into this, no idea how to reformat. So, I'll ask what could be one final question, should I just spend the bit of extra money to repair my laptop so it can hold out until the new PC comes in, or attempt to learn how to reformat the desktop? And if you're answer would fall upon the lines of "whichever one is better", they're both about the same as far as specs go, so either one works.

Edit: This also means I only need one to be working, in case that wasn't made obvious.

Ah, so formatting is just resetting to factory defaults? Cool. The more you know. Well then, I shall attempt to do that, but I don't have my own copy of the Windows install disk right now, and there's a pretty big storm outside, so I don't want to go pick one up until it blows over. I shall post once more as soon as I can actually leave my house and go buy things and stuff.

umm I think you did not get that part.
Formatting is not just factory resetting.
It wipes all the data on the hard drive leaving almost nothing behind.
It is not like factory resetting where only the files in the C drive are affected.
Here the partitions you select to format are wiped clean of any data.

Okay, I get what you're saying, but to be honest I had the computer running for about 3 weeks before it crashed, so I don't really have much that I would want to keep, everything on there is easily replaceable.
