Hi all,

So a while back I suspected there was something wrong with my PC - when the PC was first started, the BIOS gave temperatures of 99C straight away. Got it checked out this week and the "specialist" came to the conclusion that it was a faulty temperature sensor. The reason I say "specialist" is because my specs should allow me to play games at 60 FPS, yet I'm getting maybe 18 on some fairly newish games (2014). Could this be caused by a faulty temperature sensor?

Solution
Yes, the temp sensor is responsible for CPU throttling. If the CPU gets too hot it gets throttled down to prevent permanent damage/CPU meltdown/fire. The temperature sensor measures the temperatures thus determines when it is time to throttle the CPU down, greatly limiting performance (as you have noticed).
