I play heavily modded Minecraft and I currently have a amd a6-6400k and I was wondering if there would be a better CPU for under £200 and the socket type doesn't matter

I'm not sure how prices are where you live, but ideally, go for the best Intel Skylake setup you can afford.

Minecraft is not well threaded. A Core i3 6100 is the ideal CPU for your needs. For a bit more, a 6600K paired with an overclocking board could give you a little more performance.

Socket types matter a whole lot mate, if you're spending £200 on a CPU you'd be better with one from Intel as AMD are good cheap CPU's but are beaten by Intel in the mid+ range...

If you have $200 for just the processor, go for an Intel Skylake i5. I'm not sure how the prices are on the i5 where you live, but if you can afford it, go for that. If not, your best bet would be a Skylake i3.

for single core a i3 is what you want if you run multi core minecraft mods and its the only game you play get a fx cpu with 8 cores thats not a 9000 series or if you can afford it a intel i5 6600k as it should be in your 260 usd price range
