Hi, I am building a new pc soon, its my first build. I know what is needed to build a pc, but something scares me alot.
It is static electricity. Im really scared that I will damage my components with static electricity. I know about the antistatic band that you put on a hand, buy I don't want to buy it. How can I be sure that I will not be statically charged?

Solution
ESD is really nothing to worry about.

Work on a non conductive surface (I work on an oak table on hard wood floors). Other than that, just touch the case from time to time as you work, it will level any charge you may have.

Realistically so long as you arent dancing around in wool socks on carpet you dont have to worry.

Solution
As stated, ESD is very over-exagerated. Back in the 80s and earlier, electronics were much more sensitive it and it was a big concern.

With modern electronics, if you are on a non-conductive surface, not wearing wool clothing or rubbing socks on carpet there is very very little risk.

From a consumer standpoint, 1% possibility of ESD is very low. From a manufacturer standpoint 1% of 100k units is still 1k damaged units. Thus the 12 cents of cost to put it in an ESD bag and take precautions is money well spent.
