How should a 290X perform now?

So I built my first and current rig about a month ago using an R9 290X I bought used for $250 CAD. (Please don't comment that I should've gotten an RX 480; those are around $350 CAD + 13% HST. I know they have better performance and power consumption, but I couldn't really afford one, so I got a 290X instead. Alright? Now let's move on.) At first, everything seemed normal...but lately I've been questioning whether its performance is normal for what it is. It's got Gigabyte's WindForce cooler on it, which should do a fairly decent job. Temps are around 75 degrees on full load. But temps and power consumption are not what I'm worried about. It's the actual performance.

Firestrike doesn't seem to want to run right now...the last score I got was 9830, which I thought was pretty good. My graphics score was 12475. (My CPU is a locked i5, so I thought the graphics score would give a better idea of the GPU horsepower.)

But what got me thinking was Overwatch. I game at 2560 x 1080 Ultrawide, and I get anywhere between 75-100 FPS on max settings at that resolution, depending on the map. But http://www.techspot.com/review/1209-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060/page2.html shows that an R9 390 is getting higher framerates at 1440p. I thought the 390 was an overclocked 290 with more vRAM. No? Isn't a 390's performance about on par with a 290X's?

I'm on DX12, using the latest AMD drivers. Card is running at default factory overclock of 1040MHz. Can someone help me? Is this performance normal?

Solution
Well, the problem is in the benchmarks. an R9 390 is getting around the average framerate that you are, but your minimums are lower.
Thats because techspot is using an i7 6700k at 4.5 Ghz. And according to this http://www.techspot.com/review/1180-overwatch-benchmarks/page5.html, an i7 6700k at 4.0 ghz produces a 72 fps gap between it and an i5 4690k (minimum of 123 compared to 195).

So the performance of your 290x is about right.
The R9 390 is a refresh of the R9 290, featuring better performance, even though it is based on the same GPU with the same process.
Note that this is benchmarks at 1920x1080, while you will be getting frames at 2560x1080, which will require more horsepower.
I think that your frame rates are standard for the graphics card you have, nothing to worry about! :)

No...look at the 1440p benchmarks. The 390 is getting an average of 96 at 2560 x 1440.

Oh...wow. Overwatch was that CPU-dependent? The 6700K outperforms the 5960X, so I'm assuming it's based on single-core performance.
