I got a new graphics card (gtx 960) for my i5 Dx4860 Gateway PC and I have a 520W to be able to power the graphics card.

The problem was after installing the graphics card into the PC and turning it on, it would go into the boot up(or loading) screen but in a way smaller resolution at the top left corner. It froze there for about 5 minutes then went into a blank screen with a little white crusor blinking at the top left corner. So i turned it off and reinstalled everything to try one more time. same thing happened but while it was frozen at the boot up screen i tried hitting 'del' or all the other buttons to try and get passed that but no luck. It froze there and went back to the blank screen, I've tried everything i know. So i came here for some help. Thanks

Do you have any USB drives attached? -> Unplug and try again
External hard drives attached? -> Unplug and try again
Disc in the CD drive? (sometimes this causes issues like this) -> Remove disc and try again

If you're still getting this then you might need to reset CMOS or, if you can get into BIOS, reset BIOS defaults.

Before doing everything i made sure i had no usb or externeal hardrives attached, along with the cd drive.
So i reset BIOS Dfaults. I guess ill try reseting CMOS.
Is there any other things i can try?

It honestly seems like it's hanging during boot. Try removing the graphics card and booting up without it.

EDIT: Someone else, in another thread, reminded me of a BIOS issue. Perhaps updating the BIOS will fix this hang up? As was the case in the other thread it was a GTX 900 series card that had issues. My memory seems to suggest that there was a problem with them that required a BIOS update for some motherboards to fix.

Anyway, I suggest you first try the other suggestions before updating the BIOS.

I can boot up without the graphics card no problem. I have tried everything you told me to try to do. I guess ill try the BIOS update. Do you suggest doing the BIOS Update from the developers website? Thanks

go into the bios and make sure to disable secure boot

or there could be an option to enable legacy mode

you need to also go to the gateway website and make sure your bios is up todate

Hey, I know this is getting pretty old still not figuring this out. I'm sorry, but I've been working on this and i just cant seem to find the things i need. I've already installed the most recent Bios update. Nothing, I've tried to disable secure boot from the BIOS or enable legacy mode. but i get no option for any of those. It's like they were never there. I'm new to this upgrading stuff. I know a little. I talked to this friend that knows plenty he's tried working on it, and has come to the conclusion that it might be a mother board problem. My last option might be to take it to some shop. Or if there's a way to bring up legacy mode or disable secure boot some how cause i have no access to that. I'm sorry if i seem like i don't know much. Thanks

No need to apologize! We all started out somewhere. :D
Anyway, it sounds like the motherboard's BIOS has been modified to lock the average user out of a lot of options. There might be something that is held at boot-up to unlock advanced/service mode but I do not know. You may be better off contacting gateway to see if they'll explain how to access that advanced mode. If you're unable to access it then you're probably going to have to "upgrade" or side-grade your motherboard and that comes with a host of other considerations.
