We have a windstream router in our house, and would like to have wifi in our shop/garage, which is a good 200ft-300ft away. What would be the best, and cheapest way to do this? Im sure you cant really buy a range extender that goes that far, and if you can buy one it would be rather expensive!!! Could we just run a 300ft. outdoor ethernet cable a few inches underground from the house to the shop, and then have some device that uses ethernet to broadcast a wifi signal in the shop? Do they make such a thing? And what is it called? Thanks!! Help is very much appreciated!!

The spec for cat5e maximum cable runs is 100m, which is 328ft. So the direct bury cat5e cable will work. On your workshop side you need to purchase a wifi access point or another router that can be configured as an access point.

You could run a cat 5/6 cable to your shop and have a wifi router/range extender there to provide wifi.
Problem is cat x cables have a max range of ~300ft, so you'd need to measure and lay the cable carefully. Any longer and you'll need a switch between to boost the signal.

You could certainly run the ethernet cable, and use a 'repeater' to broadcast the signal.

There's quite a few 'repeater' devices, but realistically, you can use just about any old router (although some newer routers can do it 'out of the box', there are a few free custom firmware options available)

Is your garage/shop on the same electric circuit by chance? If so, powerline adapters would eliminate the 300ft ethernet cable aspect.
