Here is what I have,

HP Pavilion p6550z PC
• AMD Athlon(TM) X4 635 quad-core processor [2.9GHz, 2MB L2, up to 4000MHz bus]
• 4GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [2 DIMMs]
• 500GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
• 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 315 [DVI, HDMI, VGA adapter]
• LightScribe 16X max. DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive
• Integrated Ethernet port, No wireless LAN
• 15-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB, audio
• Integrated sound

It's mainly for my wife's home office usage. No extensive gaming PC. I want to upgrade my motherboard and CPU. SDRAM could be optional to upgrade. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I know. It's back to 2010 when I bought it. I still have the old tower case. Can I re-use that with your recommended motherboard? Thanks!

Maybe, but you'll lose out on USB3.0 in the front and it might be a bit tight of a build. The issue is going to be whether or not the PSU fits. You could theoretically just replace CPU,mobo, and memory (and OS), but sometimes those old OEM PSUs don't play nicely with retail components (especially haswell/skylake)
