I currently have a 120 gig Samsung 840 ssd drive with my os on it. when I got the free upgrade to windows 10 it ran well for a while then got all screwy. I've decided to install a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD, and am going to reinstall widows 8.1, then upgrade back to windows 10(basically a clean install). Question 1. Should I install the magician software (version 4.5, I know there is a newer version) before I reinstall the OS? I also have a 1TB HDD that I will disconnect before I do the. Since I already had a SSD in the first place, do I have to do anything before I do the swap, or will it just work as it did before? Here is my system specs:
gigabyte Z97-HD3
32 gig of Kingston Hyper x fury ram 1600Mhz
Core I7 4790k cpu 4.00Mgz
Evga GTX 980 ti sc GPU
Evga 850 watt p2 PSU.
120 gig C drive and a 1 TB Disk Drive as my e drive

Hey there, fuguenman.

The software you are talking about won't be needed before you install the OS. I'd also recommend that you disconnect all secondary drives during the OS installation process. This is just a cautionary measure so that none of the OS partitions and/or system files get written to one of them, as this happens sometimes.

Once you've installed Windows you can reconnect your secondary drives and install the software so that you can manage your SSD.

As you've mentioned that your current SSD is not running well, you could check out this article with tips on how to optimize the SSD's performance: https://www.maketecheasier.com/12-things-you-must-do-when-running-a-solid-state-drive-in-windows-7/ (those tips are also viable...

Also, I don't know if your current key would work for the Win 10 upgrade as the free upgrade has been discontinued since 29 July. However if you've upgraded already to Windows 10 before, it should pick up your hardware configuration and work fine. However, you'd better get in touch with Microsoft about that, so that you're on the safe side when you decide to install Win 10.

Hope that helps. Please let me know how everything goes.

THX for your response. I called Microsoft and was told that The media creation tool should do the trick. ( At least that's what they say LOL) Gonna try the install tomorrow. I will let you know the results. THX again.
