My expensive gaming rig that I bought and set up no less than 5 months ago is already receiving it's first major hiccup. Everything has been running smooth as rain up until a few days ago. I booted the computer on and something just seemed off. The way the windows moved, the way my rainmeter skins reacted to sound (I have a live music visualizer and it was very laggy) This is my hardware: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/TrickyTopher/saved/W9m48d
It has worked perfectly since I have assembled it. My graphics card came with a CD that had a copy of some Gigabyte software, notably one called OC Guru II, a software overclocker for GPU. I decided to try it out while playing GTA5 the other day, not knowing whether it would negatively affect my CPU or not. Was this a bad idea? Here's what the program looks like at default values: http://i.imgur.com/adnHysK.png
Here are the values I set it at for no longer than five minutes that night, just to see what the effect would be: http://i.imgur.com/h1tBYPO.png After seeing it and not really noticing anything, I decided to abort and stop meddling. I clicked the default button and continued to use the computer at its optimum efficiency for a long time. It wasn't until I shut it down for the night and booted it up the next day that I found out just how off everything was.
Windows processes are very quick to not respond and moving the windows around can give some visible lag and stuttering at times. Games do not run like they should, they are very jumpy and stuttery. Overwatch straight up failed to run when I first booted up because it claimed that it "didn't detect any graphics hardware". Strange, but I found a fix and followed through. When I run Overwatch it just lags like hell, same stuttering problems in the menus but it's also extremely laggy when there are multiple things going on onscreen. I have never had this problem with this game, or any game for that matter. I was literally just running GTA5 at its highest settings a day ago and now I can't even handle Overwatch.
I have been spending a few days looking up potential solutions, troubleshooting and trying to determine whether or not it was a hardware or software issue. I ran tons of virus scans with Malwarebytes and Emsisoft, uninstalled the OCGuru software and reset the CMOS and BIOS of my motherboard by taking the little battery for twenty minutes and reinstalling it. I have reseated my GPU, RAM, PSU cables (modular), processor (replaced thermal paste while I was at it) and checked my mobo for any signs of visible damage, to which I have found none. I reset my computer by deleting all data on each of the drives and reinstalling Windows to rule out any software problems. Games are still lagging and windows processes are still very laggy. My graphics is set to my GPU on the NVIDIA control panel, monitor is plugged into GPU. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Here are some performance test specs that I was able to gather and I'm not sure I know how to read these. To be honest, they don't look very good. I just need help understanding which piece of hardware is not functioning right now because I have no idea how to narrow it down.
Here is the benchmark results by Passmark with my GPU installed: http://i.imgur.com/Kkd9ib8.png
Here is the same benchmark without my GPU in my rig (just because): http://i.imgur.com/y5tq1QP.png
Here is a CPUID HWMonitor scan while idling: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9BN4hWbrlw5RktnaG40TDRrdjQ/view?usp=sharing
Here is CPU-Z: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9BN4hWbrlw5cTB5UmxXU3JHak0/view?usp=sharing
I hope this helps. I'm at a complete loss right now as to what is wrong and I just want to narrow it down to a piece of hardware so I can worry about fixing/replacing it. Thank you for your time!
