Is my CPU bottlenecking my system?

Hi guys, so i had a GT 330, and with that card i was able to play Dota2 and csgo at about 70+ fps on both games, now i recently bought a new card at a reasonable price, the HD 5750 1gb gddr5 edition, and the fps in dota and csgo is worse, i checked the fps, cpu and gpu things while ingame with rivatuner and cpu core usages were at about 90%+ at most of the time on both games. It's the CPU clearly bottlenecking my system right? If so, i'm planning to buy a new one, not a crazy one but a budget one to play those games at a nice fps at 1440x900 res.. I saw pretty cheap CPU's in a store, a Core2Quad Q6600 and a i3 530, which is better? if none, which one should i get. Thanks in advance.

My rig:
FUJITSU SIEMENS | Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.4 GHz E6600 4MB L2 Cache | 4.00GB Hynix
DDR2-333MHz (4 x 1GB) | CLUB 3D Radeon HD 5750 1GB GDDR5 (OverClocked) | 80GB
(ST380815AS) ATA & 200GB (Maxtor 6Y200M0) ATA | Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

There's no reason that your FPS should drop like that with a better graphics card. Use MSI Afterburner to underclock your GPU, and clean your GPU if it's dusty. It could be throttling down due to heat. Also make sure you installed new drivers off of AMD's website for the graphics card.

You're probably severely CPU-limited, and AMD's drivers are notoriously more CPU-heavy in DX11 games, so due to extra CPU overhead, you might have lost performance despite having what is technically a much faster card. For this reason, NV cards are often better to pair with slower CPUs.

Yes, its a used card, but it's like a new one, no dust or such things, it's cleaned. I tried to underclock it tho but no better results. BTW, im using the new latest radeon crimson driver thing :D

Yea, i think so too. So, which cpu do u recommend to get now from the one i mentioned?

BTW, games like Warface and such, i can play them at high settings 60+ fps. So, the cpu i guess its only bottlenecking source based games like csgo and dota right?

A higher clocked Core2Duo would help a little, you can find some 3ghz+ chips that would slightly improve performance, and you can probably find one on eBay for less than $10. However, I work at a PC repair shop, and when someone brings in a PC with a Core2Duo, we generally take it to the recycler. Generally speaking, they're too old now (almost a decade) to be much good for anything.

I'd agree. With such an old CPU, using an AMD card was a mistake. If you want a new CPU then I'd go with the i3 530. Less physical cores, but it'll do better in gaming since it is higher clocked and newer.

What is your motherboard model? Probably not possible to just pop in a new CPU.

Yes, it will depend on the game. Every game will have different CPU requirements.

Thanks, i know that they're old, but they still do their job for most of the games. I'm not a gamer that wants to play bf4, gta5 and such games at FHD 60fps, i want just to play games like csgo, dota2 at a nice fps.

My motherboard is crap, it's maximum cpu support is the c2d E6700. So, of course if i want a new cpu, i'd also get a new mobo.

You have a 65nm LGA775 CPU with a 266mhz FSB. Your board will probably support any other 65nm LGA775 CPU, and may or may not support 45nm CPUs. It will definitely support 266mhz and 200mhz FSB CPUs, but may or may not support 333mhz FSB CPUs.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors

If your board supports 333mhz FSB CPUs, but not 45nm ones, the Core2Duo E6850 (3ghz) is 25% faster and can be found on eBay for $6. If your board does not support 333mhz FSB CPUs but takes 45nm ones, the Core2Duo E7600 (3.07ghz) is 30% faster and draws less power (runs cooler and quieter), and is also $6 on eBay. If your board can take both 333mhz FSB and 45nm CPUs, the Core2Duo E8600 is 40% faster.

There are also socket 775 quad core CPUs you can choose from, which would provide better general desktop performance and might be a better alternative to another dual core, but it's going to be tough to know what chips your board supports. LGA775 had a lot of available CPUs and determining compatibility was a real mess.

If you're in the market for a new motherboard too, the go-to low budget CPU is the Core i3 6100, for about $120. Pair it with a ~$50 H110 motherboard and 8GB of DDR4 and you're good to go. A Pentium G4400 is an option for less, but the lack of hyperthreading really compromises performance in some games. It will, of course, still be a tremendous upgrade over what you have.

fujitsu d2317-a21 BTX, this is my motherboard, Q965 is my chipset, check if u can help me anything... Thanks

You could try a X6800 C2X, 2.93GHz stock. With a locked BIOS Throttlestop 6.00 software gets control of voltage and multiplier in Windows. I've had my Dell E520 up to 4GHz with a QX6800 that way. Of course you'll need a good cooler to get the best results, and with low watt motherboards sticking some heatsinks on the VRMs is a good idea also.. I had an HD6770 that was nowhere near what a GTX 750 will do. They said max CPU for my Dell was Q6700.
