My usb keyboard is working just a few moments ago and suddenly few keys were not recognize or detected when pressed. T,y, [,] backspace, tab, left windows key. (I am not sure if there are more non functioning keys atm) but they suddenly stopped working as I was typing an email! All of them all of the sudden.

Additional information. I have windows 7 on my desktop. I never spilled any liquid on my keyboard. I already tried to restart but the keys didnt work still. Tried to remove the USB and plugged in another port and still no use. Tried to remove the keyboard in the device manager thingy then reboot. Still no response on said keys.

Any help guys? My keyboard is approximately 2 years old. But i dont know if its wear and tear problem or software. They all stopped working at the same time which is weird. But other keys are working just fine. Can it be a virus or malware or spyware?

I had this exact same problem.
Out of no where all my ctrl keys ,right shift, a few keys in the top and bottom row just died for no reason.
I never spilt anything on it but one day when I booted into my OS none of those keys were working.
I replaced my keyboard with a new one and all keys were functioning normally.
The lesson I learnt from this: Its easier to replace your keyboard rather than to troubleshoot it.
I spent hours with my virtual keyboard trying to figure it out from online forums but eventually replacing it fixed everything.
(Before you buy a new keyboard make sure that those keys are working from the virtual keyboard. If the keys are not working from your virtual keyboard then it might be a driver problem)

Could be just accumulated gunk.

Disconnect the keyboard and hold it upside down over an old cloth or some paper towels.

Firmly tap the ends, sides, and back with the heel of your hand.

Lots of crud may fall out.

Try the keyboard again. If there are still problems you could try all that again or even look into removing keys and cleaning directly.

What make and model keyboard? Could be that it has reached its EOL (End of Life) via planned obsolescense......
