PC vs Console

So I'm not necessarily new to PC gaming but there are a couple things that really grind my gears. But one main question really. Now first I should say that I play campaign based games on PC and multiplayer on console (where my friends are).

Do consoles really run at 20-40 fps?

Because if my PC drops below 55 (60 Hz monitor) I can tell and if it drops below 45 it's almost unplayable. I don't have a problem with console framerates though.

Also I normally buy the latest and greatest components but would a higher Hz monitor ensure that a card like the 1080 never drops below 60 in 1440p. Because my usage is always low if I play in that res or 1080p but is fine at 2160p. In fact it's probably more playable at 4k than any other res. Do I just have a poor quality monitor? It's an Acer B286HK. So it's not great quality for sure but is it really that bad? (I got a real good deal on it)

Consoles, well, they are designed to look smooth and playable. I do not know the FPS for certain, but it certainly isn't 60 (at least on my TV). They might be 30-40 but it looks smooth to me, although I usually play in that range...

The thing with consoles is that quality is usually reduced to improve framerates, and you are at the mercy of your TV's refresh rate which is between 24 and 60hz depending on the model and mode. With PC gaming, you have the flexibility of adjusting quality settings according to your hardware capabilities, and upgrade bits and pieces as necessary to improve it. You cannot make those kinds of changes with a console - you're stuck with what they give you. That being said, I just purchased a GTX 1080 and use a 144hz 1440p monitor, and I can still hit sub-60 framerates in WoW with Ultra settings. But I can guarantee you that if WoW were on a console, it wouldn't look nearly as good or perform that well. My motherboard, CPU, and RAM are 6 years old. I only upgrade the graphics card every year or so. In my opinion, PC is where it's at.

What type of cable are you using to connect your GPU to your Monitor? (It should be a Displayport Cable if it isn't.)

Yes, consoles can typically only run games at sub 30FPS, and there are noticeable frame drops in a lot of console games as well.

Your monitor is fine for 4k gaming actually, but 4k is still pretty hard to run at higher settings even on top of the line cards like the 1080.
