Hello everyone, i wanted to upgrade my pc so it can get even stronger, and i thought of upgrading my gpu, From GTX 650 to GTX 1070, but the problem is my cpu is Intel Core I7 2700k so will it bottleneck my gpu?

Here are my specs:

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z77x-D3H

CPU: Intel Core I7 2700K

PSU: Gigabyte GreenMax 650W 80+ bronze certified

Case: Gigabyte Sumo Alpha

Ram: Kingston 8 GB 4x2 DDR3

Solution
It depends on the game, but the vast majority of games should run near or above 60fps. Some games such as Arma or Guild Wars will be less than 60fps regardless of what GPU you have because they're CPU hogs. Regardless, you should see a healthy improvement with your new card.
There is always a bottleneck somewhere or your framerates would be infinitely high. A better question to ask is, "Does my 2700K allow me to get high enough framerates in games?"

Upgrading your video card will let you run at higher graphical settings with the same framerates, but ultimately your CPU is what determines how high your FPS can go regardless of what GPU you have.

i don't want to stress the card or overclock it or anything like this, but my gpu is very old, i can run New games on lowest settings and i get like 40 fps, so if i upgraded to gtx 1070 will i get 60 fps or more on ultra 1920x1080 with this cpu? or my cpu will bottleneck and i wont be able to get 60 fps or more? thanks for your reply tho!

so is it worth upgrading my cpu? or i wont notice alot of difference if i upgraded my cpu

because if i did, i will get intel core-i7 6700k for 300 bucks, and everyone's buying it because its very powerful but expensive too, so as i said is it worth upgrading or i wont notice a big difference?

I hope you don't mind hijacking this thread, but I have a similar question-

I have a 2500k and a GTX 1070, and I notice several games I play (particularly on Linux) seem to be CPU limited.

Particularly Cities:Skylines and Bioshock Infinite. Also ARMA.

Cities:Skylines and ARMA are both very single-thread limited. A Core i3 6100 would actually greatly outperform a Core i7 2600K in those games, due to having faster cores, but they run like crap on basically any hardware, just a bit better on newer architecture than old.

Mechwarrior Online I noticed was also that way, but only when a large number of players were in the field. This was on Windows.

I can't really tell what GPU you have in those pictures, due to blurriness, but I'll assume the GPU you had before is a gaming GPU of some sort. If the FPS were 40 with the lowest settings, they'd likely remain 40 with a new 1070, but the main difference is the 1070 will do it at the highest settings.
