Help about Steelseries USB sound card.

I don't know if this is a right place to ask so if I was wrong, please forgive me.
I intend to buy a Steelseries USB sound card, look like this

They said it have "virtual 7.1 surround sound", or something like that.
So I wonder if I use this card with normal headset, earphone that isn't a 7.1 headset or earphone will they still work? Will we still can have the "virtual 7.1 surround sound"?

I have one of that.. it's a great piece of hardware for the Siberia V1 - about 4 years and counting.. one of the best purchases I've made.. the in-game sounds are louder & clearer.. you certainly won't get a 7.1 feel, but soundstage is something that's greatly improved with this device.. if you have a steelseries headset, I'd say - go for it..

I once used Razer Surround on my non-7.1 headphone (just a normal, very cheap one) and it worked. I can feel some kind of "surround" sound. I thought the sound card will work similar to razer surround :/
