I have 2 sticks of corsair ddr3 1600mhz 4gb ram, and i have one stick of amd r9 1866 4gb, should i run with duall channel 8 gb or should i go with 12 gb single channel?

Solution
If the sticks will play, then you'll effectively have 8GB in dual and the odd 4 in single. Will prob be able to run all at 1600 - if any problems give a shout and we can try adjustments to get them all to play

Neither. Or both. Chances are that the 1600 will run dual channel at 1600, and the 1866 (that's usually an XMP setting anyways, default is 1600) will run single channel at 1600. That's assuming it'll work. There's absolutely no way to tell or guarantee it will. It's pot luck when mixing ram sticks from different kits. You can have the exact same ram, from the exact same vendor, from 2 different packages, and only 1 works at a time.

It won't hurt to try, it might help if it does, but there's a good possibility it won't.

Intel has had Flex mode for a few years now and AMD implemented their version not real long after, effectively with 3 4GB sticks it will show as dual, though it will be 8GB in dual and the odd 4 in single channel mode. If sticks will play, can also have a config like an 8GB in A1 and 2 4GB sticks in B1 and B2 (8GB per channel) and all 16 GB will run full dual channel ;)
