Adapter
Os: linux mint 18, mate

right now i'm using an ethernet cable at my house, but tomorrow i'll be moving into my collage dorm.

i just built my computer this week, and this is my first time using or having linux. i have no experience, and my ability to troubleshoot/do things like this is limited to finding and entering a list of commands someone else has put together.

if my dorm doesn't have ethernet, i'm up the creek with no paddle.

please help me.

(the site that i bought the adapter from said it was linux compatable)

With Linux, it is best to get the most common/popular wifi adapters around, since they will be supported. I have never had issues with D-Link adapters for instance.

Chances are you will not experience any issues, just plug it in and if it is supported then choose an appropriate network and enter the password if needed.

it doesn't have a pop up, but it does scan for networks when it's plugged in (it lists available networks, and allows me to put in passwords)

except that entering the correct password doesn't do anything. it just closes the window and isn't connected.

i've tried accessing the router, but no one knows the password, and i don't want to reset the router the day before i leave, or risk screwing it up.

currently trying ubuntu 16.04LTS
