He guys,

I really need a new computer for my final year of University (studying Computer Games Development, specialising in 3D Animation).

I need a CPU that is good for 3D rendering (primarily 3ds Max & Maya), playing games (will be using a lot of Unreal Engine 4 for my work), and video editing to show off my work in full HD showreels and whatnot.

I should also note that I will also be gaming on this PC, and I have just got an AMD RX 480 for the graphics. (I know, I know! The GTX 10XX line has just come out as well, and lots of people will be asking why I didn;t get a 1060 or 1070. I am on a rather strict budget, and I have gone with AMD before , and it has served me perfectly well.

My budget for the CPU is about £300. I have been looking at the new i7 6700k Skylake, but I don't know if i'm missing a gem somewhere else.

Previously I have been using an AMD FX-8350, which has been okay, but I am looking to upgrade from that (will be getting a new motherboard so socket type is irrelevant)

Edit: I will also be doing a fair bit of high res photo editing for textures for 3D models (Between 2048px x 2048px and 8192px x 8192px)

Thanks guys.

It's less than two nights bar work or a week of abstinence for a uni student. I'm sure he can manage. You get more than £60 a week on unemployment benefit! It's not a great stretch but definately a great option.

He asked if he was missing a gem somewhere else and this is it.

180 pounds $360cdn / night = 12 hours for bar work? wow! Guess you got to be social and be a "talker" for that job, and not skim the booze for yourself. Maybe at the hottest place in town. At The Keg, I doubt it. Id say 1/2 that for a normal busy place.
But yeah its not a long stretch, I know what you mean.
Instead of eating out, eat in = save $$$$$$$
save up for your desired cpu!!!!!!!!

Maths maybe a bit off, I was only on about making up the extra £60 not three times that ! But you never know if the op is pretty and knows how to work the customers he might get that extra 2/3rds in tips.

And yes it's incredibly worth it saving up especially for cpu as they're at crawing pace in upgrades compared to the gpu market. Get a good (overclockable) one and you're set for top tier performance for at least 5 years.

I really wish that I could afford the extra £60, but I live on my own, away from parents, so I need to pay my rent and bills and buy food and stuff! I've already had to borrow money from my mother to get this PC until my student load comes in.

I seriously considered getting the 5820k from play-asia.com since it is listed as £300 there, but there is an £80 delivery charge, so there's no point :/

I really wish there was an Autodesk benchmarking program that would accurately show how good or bad a processor was at rendering in their software. Is there anybody who has a 6700k and also has 3ds max and would be willing to render a scene so that I can compare it to my current CPU?
