Hello, did a 1st time build (listed below) and every thing went well, computer posts and runs to specs. I plugged in a new Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 and could not POST, or even get an error code - total dead stick except for light on on/off switch.
There was a "click" sound right at power on though, and any subsequent attempts to start up were completely silent and dead. After unplugging and plugging back in I would get the single click sound again but no POST and then nothing after that. however, when I unplugged the 8 pin connector and powered on the card lights would turn on from the pci-e power, but that's it.

Tried it in different slots- same result. Computer ran fine after I pulled the card and just used integrated graphics. Checked Bios, pci-e slot 1 checked for primary video. Also, was very careful during install, and card was definitely seated properly (as was 8 pin). I did not however plug in the monitor as I was just checking if it would power on at that point. Bios version is the latest non-beta (#7). the beta versions deal with ram compatability.
I think that the card was DOA, probably with the connector or power but am hoping someone with better knowledge or experience or even a similar problem might point me to some solutions before I rma. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Make sure you are using the cables that came with the PSU and that you haven't plugged into the cpu 4+4 connectors.
The clicking when you first turn it on sounds like you have a short circuit.

Popatim,

Thank you for your response. My psu came with 2 (4+4) 8 pin connectors and i used 1 for cpu and 1 for gpu. This was the mistake because i just used the 6+2 8pin for gpu and it fired right up. I should have checked this before posting here but thanks all the same.

By the way, is it that you should never use those 4+4 8 pin for anything other than cpu power or do i just have a bad cable?
