Laptop suffers from slow internet speeds no matter what I do?

I've recently run into problems where my laptop will suffer from low internet speeds. I have a desktop and a laptop, and my parents have a laptop each as well. My desktop is wired and gets an average of 60-ish Mbps; my phone gets fast speeds as well, if it means anything. My laptop, however, has been getting very slow internet speeds, around 2-3 mbps. I've tried everything I know - clearing browsing data/cache, cleaning up junk from the computer, turning off useless background apps, and restarting the modem/router. As far as a I can think, this has been happening ever since a few weeks after I wired up my desktop a few months ago.

I thought my desktop was hogging all the bandwidth, so I unplugged the Ethernet cable but it didn't make a difference. My family gets low mbps as well on wifi, and we didn't before I wired my desktop. Do I have to turn off my desktop for it to stop it from "hogging" the bandwidth? My laptop gets good mpbs when it's wired via the cable, but it's horrible when it comes to wifi.

I have an MSI cx61 2pc, although I don't see how the model could be the problem since the wifi in general seems to have low speeds.
