UPDATE: I had them replaced and everything works now.

Hello,

I just set up a new rig and i noticed it just showing 8gb of ram instead of 16gb and they are installed in a2-b2 slots respectively as recommended by the mobo manual. The bios shows only one stick plugged in so you might think the other one is defective, but the thing is when i plug each one alone they both work. The other thing, i tried reseating in different slots and only plugged in a1-a2 shows 16gb, but of course not in dual-channel mode. I tried both default and XMP 1 profile speed and timings (3000mhz 15-16-16-35 1.35v) but with no avail. I also tried pressing mem ok button but nothing changes.

I just want to know if the memory is defective, my motherboard or some compatibility issues, so i know to have the replaced with the same or another brand. Thanks in advance.

Configuration:
Asus maximus hero VIII s1151
i5 6600k @3500mhz
G.Skill Ripjaws V 2x8GB model: F4-3000C15D-16GVRB
Samsung SSD EVO 250gb + Samsung 1tb hdd
PSU EVGA G2 750W

k only thing I can think of make sure the ram is in properly. Make sure you hear it click into the slot.

I had the same prob with this last night (but not the same mobo). I realised it was running in single channel, so I changed the ram to A1 B1.

. It kept picking up 1 stick (I knew both sticks worked because A1 and A2 worked). It wasnt until I pressed on the ram and heard it click in that it worked and I was getting 16 GB dual channel

Some people have also fixed your prob by changing the speed of the ram, in the BIOS. Thats if the BIOS detects 16 GB but windows only see 8

I don't think it's a windows problem because the bios shows only one stick. Is there a difference between a1b1 vs a2b2? I remember i read the latter if for high performance RAM but i'm not sure what that is (2400mhz+,3000mhz+?). I'll try reseating them again, but to plug in A1 i have to remove the heatspreader and doing that multiple times i'm afraid i'll damage cpu or mobo.
