Hi guys, I have just recently picked up a bargain PC with an Intel dg45fc motherboard in it, I am planning to put a Xeon e5440 in it and I also want to ugrade the RAM, Currently I am running 2x1gb of ram in it however I want to go for 4gb which is the max this board supports, I am trying to do this on a budget as this is just a budget media PC, and I have found that 1x4gb is cheaper than 2x2gb. Will just one stick of 4gb do fine, I wasn't sure if maybe each slot had a limit of 2gb?

Solution
You can't use a single 4GB module as each slot supports only 2GB max.

If each slot supported 4GB, that would mean the board supports 8GB total, which is obviously not the case.
