This has just started since last night.

BRAND NEW PC BUILT IN MARCH 2016!

System specs:
Monitor: Samsung S27D590P 27"
PSU: 650W P2 evga supernova 80+ platinum
GPU: ASUS Strix gtx970 4GB
CPU: Intel i5 4590
CPU cooler: Be Quiet! (not sure model but a decent one lol)
MoBo: Gigabyte H97M-D3H
RAM: 2x8GB G-Skill

PC was built by a local tech who is very good at building/breaking in new pc's. Computer passed stress tests when it was first built, with flying colours.

Monitor, PC, and Logitech G27 steering wheel plugged into a surge protector power bar.

Last night I bought a g27 steering wheel, plugged everything in and started racing. After about 5-10 minutes of gaming, the computer shuts off and restarts right away, getting the normal "windows did not shut down correctly, what would you like to do?" option. I select start windows normally, and it loads to the desktop no problem.

I start the game again, and after anywhere from 5-15 min of playing, it will do the same thing again. It's happen all 5 times I've tried gaming.

I've downloaded a few monitoring programs (HWinfo) but I can't really make out what I'm suppose to be looking at. I started the logging feature and then played til the computer shut down, then downloaded the log viewer but I'm not sure if anythings overheating because I don't know what overheating temps are for my componenets.

CPU : 43°C average
System: 38°C
+12V: Average of 11.98 but dropped to around 11.96 last 2 min before shut down
GPU: 70°C max...average: 65°C
GPU +12V: 11.99 average but dropped to around 11.95 for the last 2 minutes before shut down

I've read all the related threads, the only thing I can say is maybe it's the PSU failing? I've also read about power supplies not being able to get sufficient power when plugged into surge protector like mine is. Could this be because I plugged my g27 into the same power bar?

I haven't really gamed lately before getting the g27 so it's hard to tell if it's related to the wheel or not.

Any ideas?

Also, ill do another logging on HWinfo, and post the .csv file for review.

Won't be able to offer much in the way of suggestions after this as I'm running out of ideas. The following is what I could come up with...

Are drivers all up to date?

Is Windows up to date? (Personally I'm blaming Windows 10 for every niggle on my PC... Anniversary update seems to have been a bit dodgy for some.)
Aside from just blacking out, do you get any blue screen errors?

Have a look at this thread. There is a way of checking to see if your PSU is fine, with better information than I can provide.

CPU temperature on load: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1800828/intel-temperature-guide.html
Check section 13 of that. I've seen mention of...
My first reaction is whether the game crashes if you aren't using the steering wheel. This essentially tells you what I think the problem may be as it seems a bit coincidental it occurs during gaming. I should ask: does it happen at any other time? (I know you mentioned only when gaming, but best to double check.)

When the computer shuts off, what does the monitor do? (Does it blink off as if there's an interruption to the power supply, or stays on but loses the signal?) That might give a clue whether the issue is computer specific or elsewhere.

More experienced forum members could recommend certain stress tests to check whether it is the PSU failing. From basic monitoring, I've seen it mentioned if the voltage from the rails vary by more than 10%, then it's a cause for concern.

I was actually just about to test if it crashes without the wheel. It only crashes when I'm gaming, I tried 2 different games with the wheel and both crashed anywhere from 5-15 min into the game. If i'm just surfing the web or doing things on the desktop, it never crashes. I was downloading a game last night when i was first trying out the wheel when it crashed, so i restarted the computer, resumed the download and called it a night..When i woke up the computer was still on and the download was complete, so it stayed on no problem through the night (basically on idle).

When the computer shuts off, the monitor goes to a no signal (just shows what input the monitor is set to, up in the top corner) until the computer reboots itself, so I'm thinking it's computer specific. I've tried plugging the pc straight into the wall instead of the power bar, tried plugging the wheel into the wall, hoping it was just a power bar problem.

I'll try playing without the wheel and see what happens. I'll log another test in HWinfo then post both on here for review!

Also, I use a steelseries apex keyboard, a logitech g400s mouse, logitech z313 speakers, and astro a40s with a mixamp, along with the g27 wheel. This shouldn't be drawing barely any extra power, right?

EDIT: Tried without the wheel (unplugged from power bar and from usb port in back of pc) and it still crashes :pt1cable:

Check section 13 of that. I've seen mention of prime95 a lot when testing the stability of Intel CPUs. There is a mention of caution being required if temperature exceeds 70 deg C.

RAM test: memtest86+ could help check for issues with RAM.

try searching for system settings in the search bar,go to startup and recovery->settings and uncheck automatically restart on system failure, that might do the trick

Sorry I know this is 5 years on, but did you ever find a solution you could share? Have nearly the exact same setup and vintage but a new G923 (successor to the G27) plugged in last night tripped my machine 5 times within 2 hours with 'power surge protection' explanation BIOS. But in my case my +12 went down and stayed down at 10.5v, my +5v down to 4.5v and my 3.3v down to 3v. only after powering off and leaving it for a while did the voltages go back to normal.

create new thread if above isn't answer. no one apart from Mods will look in here, you get more help on new thread. Closing thread.
