Hey guys,

I'm upgrading my CPU to a i5-6600K and I'm basically torn between these two cooling solutions:

1) Cooler Master Hyper 212X
2) Cooler Master Nepton 120XL

Now here's the thing: the Hyper 212X costs 45 USD, while the Nepton 120XL costs 100 USD and I'm practically limited to these two cooling solutions since there's not that many CPU coolers available in retail stores in Serbia.

Which cooler offers best price to performance ratio? Is the Nepton 120XL worth the extra cash?
It should be noted that I'm planning to OC the CPU to 4.6-4.8 GHZ, so any kind of advice will be appreciated.

Cheers!

On the coolers, the 212 EVO would be fine, I've had both it and a Cryorig H7 (another great $30 cooler) on my 6600K and was fine up through about a 4.6 OC. It cools about as well or better than most 120 AIO water coolers. If going liquid, best to go ahead and invest in a 240 solution, if it will fit your case ;)

The 212X isn't much more than a replacement stock cooler as far as performance. You might be able to OC to 4.1 with the 212X, but not a chance you'll reach 4.6+.

The Nepton 120XL will allow you higher OCs, but I'd be surpriised if a 120mm AIO can push you to 4.6 or greater.

Are there any coolers from Noctua, Corsair, NZXT or Cryorig available to you locally??

If any of them happen to be:

Corsair's H100i or H115 or a NZXT Kraken X61 are more substantial coolers in both size & performance - as liquid options.

Noctua's NH-D15 (or NH-D14) are quality, high performance air coolers. Cryorig I'd assume won't be available, as they have limited distribution outside of the US.

IF you're solely between the 212X and Nepton 120XL, the Nepton would be my pick to allow any worthwhile OC.
Again, the 212X is little more than a stock replacement.

Hi,
Regardless which cooler you get: make sure that the memory heat spreader will fit under the CPU cooler.
And that the cooler will fit in the chassis.

For ex. Cooler Master Hyper 212X
http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212x/

1. From the CPU to the side panel at least 158mm.
2. Max memory height of 37mm

Thanks for the quick reply!

I managed to find the Corsair Hydro H110 & the H110i, but they are super expensive and way out of my budget. However, I did find the following coolers which are larger than the Nepton with a similar price:

1. Enermax Liqmax II 240
2. Cooler Master Nepton 240M
3. Corsair Hydro Series H5 SF

Would these larger coolers do a better job? They are all similarly priced to the Nepton 120XL.

Thanks for your reply, don't worry I'm doing all the research I can before I make a purchase, especially since it's my first build! :)

Hi,
I like that. :)

Btw. have you decide what type of memory to go with the motherboard and its CPU?
Use a memory configurator such as Corsair http://www.corsair.com/en-us/memory-finder
Kingston http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/search/options
G-Skill http://www.gskill.com/en/configurator
Etc.
Etc.

But even then, som memory manufacturers recommend memory's with a little bit to high voltage, so make sure that the CPU manufacturer specs for that particular model of CPU is followed regarding the memory voltage.
Otherwise it will shortened the CPUs lifespan.

Over Clocking is always a risk.

Remember Intel specifications (for modern processors from the last 5 years).:
For DDR3 memory: 1.5 volts, plus or minus 5%
For DDR3L memory: 1.35 volts, plus or minus 5%
For DDR4 memory: 1.2 volts, plus or minus 5%

Yes I have, I'll most probably gonna go for Kingston DDR4 8GB (2x4GB kit) 2666MHz HyperX Fury, with I will later upgrade with the same ki that'll give me a total of 16GB.

Update: I managed to find the Be Quiet! Dark Rock TF air cooler for the price of the Nepton 120XL, and I've found some reviews that say that it can handle the i5-6600K @ 4.7GHz. Should be good, right?

Perhaps do it in another way instead.
Memory's is always manufactured and matched together in one memory-kit, so it is never a good choice to assembly a mobo with different memory-sticks, from different memory package.

Especially if those are fast memories with tight timings.
No, not at all.

I would suggest that you go for 2x8GB 2133MHz at once.
That will be fast enough, believe me and you will have no trouble afterwards regarding incompatibility between each memory module.
Remember to put them in every second memory slot, so that you can take advantage of dual channel memory-support.
