I have an asus p5ql-e mobo and trying to install a 3tb hdd. It shows in bios with no space and then it doesn't show in disk management.

Solution
Hi there bmckinney04,

Is this a secondary drive?
Anyway, the drive should appear as having its full capacity under BIOS.
My suggestion would be to attach it with different cables to another SATA port. Another thing you can do is to go to your MOBO's website and update all the drivers.

In case the issue persists, there's a chance that there is something wrong with the drive. You will need to attach it to another system in order to see if it would appear the same way over there. In case it does, then I believe you can contact the manufacturer and eventually RMA the drive.

Cheers,

Thk u for the response. I have switched ports and cables. I took it to a comp shop and they plugged it in and worked grt. Maybe if I have them format it maybe it'll show then.

Hi there bmckinney04,

So you have tried all the ports right? Can you hear the drive powering up?
I believe a drive should be recognized as having its full capacity by BIOS. Some size limitations could be caused by the OS, but really by BIOS.

It's strange. If you believe you've tried all cables/ports combinations, then I believe you can update your MOBO's drivers. If this does not work, you can even consider BIOS update.

The drive spins up and I've gotten all drivers updated except bios. I'm unsure of that process.

Well, I believe there should be some kind of a tutorial or an explanation on how to do that on the MOBO's website.

You can even contact the MOBO's Support on the issue, as obviously, the drive is working on another system and you've checked the connections.
