Recently my old gaming PC died due to the hard drives and OS becoming corrupted. Instead of replacing them, I decided to upgrade to a new system. This is my second time doing this (second time coming here looking for advice as well!) so I feel I have a better grasp on what I want. So far my parts list is this:

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/yrf2VY
Price breakdown by merchant: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/yrf2VY/by_merchant/

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($344.96 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($39.30 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($219.19 @ Amazon)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory ($87.12 @ Amazon)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($89.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Western Digital Blue 2TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB GAMING X 8G Video Card
Power Supply: SeaSonic M12II 850W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($117.48 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: Samsung SH-224DB/BEBE DVD/CD Writer ($30.79 @ Amazon)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit ($89.00 @ Amazon)

Any suggested improvements or changes? Everyone here most likely has a better knowledge base on this so I figured it would be smart to ask again.

I'm still looking for a case, mouse and keyboard. I still have my BenQ XL2420 Monitor so I think I'm ok monitor wise. If I need to provide any more info let me know!

Solution

Get at least a 7200RPM hard drive because 5400RPM hard drives are very slow. A 2TB 7200 WD Black drive will be a much better purchase than a 2TB 5400 RPM drive will be. I generally don't include optical drives anymore because they're no longer a necessity. And then for RAM on X99 builds you need at least 4 x 4GB, not 2 x 8GB. You can use 2 x 8GB but to get the most out of that system you need 4 x 4GB. Also for overclocking purposes you should get at least DDR4-3000 or better, 2133 is on the low end. But otherwise that build looks good, I say go for it.

I'm planning to buy that same...
Go for a m.2 SSD. It is much faster than regular SATA SSD. Your mobo support this. For the money spending might get 500 GB SSD instead of 250.
Also a better cooler.
Mouse/keyboard is your preference. I love Logitech's product (mainly of their blue lighting but still...). Depends on which game you are playing (MOBA will need lots of extra keys/buttons, FPS games will be good with adjustable DPI)

Legenda in Aeternum
If you look at M.2 Sata drives check their speeds, the majority is not really faster than a conventional both tend to run about 550 in reads, to get the higher bandwidth potential of M.2 it will be costly 2-3 times the price of a 'conventional' SSD

How does this look? Only parts I added in were the extra HD and the optical drive. Then I kept my original memory selection, does that affect much?

I'm planning to buy that same motherboard and CPU for my rig at some point.
