I have a brand new Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 mobo that I installed and I can't get the USB 3.0 on the back to work. All my other USB ports work fine, but these won't work. I am running Windows 7. I know Windows 7 doesn't have a built in driver for USB 3.0 and that it can be mixed up in a bunch of different drivers and the chipset. I have installed the chipset and all drivers pertaining to usb. When I plug into the usb 3.0 in the back I can see that power is being provided but nothing happens. When I go to Device Manager it says that the USB Controller driver is missing. I have tried installing it but it says it can't be installed. I have also checked BIOS to make sure USB 3.0 is enabled and it is. On the mobo there is a f_usb30 port that I don't have anything plugged into. THere was nothing I had from my previous computer to plug in. I am assuming it is for adding additional usb 3.0 ports. I am not sure. Thanks in advance.

Solution
Hi, You're welcome. Try updating the board's BIOS, if newer version available. If still no go, it could be a board issue. The f_usb30 is for the case front panel usb 3.0 port (if available), I guess.

Hello. Thank you for the quick reply. Yes I have installed that driver. A couple of times actually. I have also installed the chip set, done windows updates, and checked the mobo to see if usb 3.0 is enabled.

Hey there, your thread looked striking similar to my thread from about a year back. I had the same issue, with a different motherboard (MSI Z97 Gaming 7). Long story short, I was able to resolve my issue by entering my BIOS. I had a USB tab, inside of which was an option called "XCHI Hand-off [Enable]". I [Disabled] that, and after restarting to the desktop, I opened device manager and saw the USB controller I was missing, and all of my rear ports were functional again. Maybe this solution would work for you, good luck!
