Looking into motherboards
is amd still worth it?
Intel is a little too expensive for me for an 8 core
if so which suggestions do you have

Solution
What are you planning on doing with the PC?

AMD is absolutely NOT worth it right now, even their latest CPUs are weak. Their 8 cores don't even come close to the power of Intel 4 cores.

If you're looking for gaming and perhaps some video editing and/or streaming, go with i7 6700k or i5 6600k; 4 and 6 cores respectively, though the latter is rather expensive still. I do all of the aforementioned work on my PC, and I have an i7 6700k with 16GB of DDR4 3000 RAM, and it works perfectly.

Intel's 8 cores and AMD's are not the same. What kind of cpu do you need? For light gaming and internet or for heavy gaming with a powerful GPU? Or is this for specialized work that requires lots of threads?

The FX-8350 with a Crosshair V Formula Z MB is the best combination if you wish to go AMD.
The FX-9590 is the extreme edition but with a TDP draw of 220W you would require an AIO Water Cooler of H110 or equivalent as Air cooling in insufficient.
