Is 3 GB of VRAM enough?

I was thinking of getting the RX 480 4 GB when it comes out when I have enough money on October. I have waited almost 2 months and still no 4GB variant yet so I'm look towards the GTX 1060 3GB which is priced the same as the RX 480 4GB. However, I have my doubts for the amount of VRAM the 1060 has as I'm a complete noob at PC hardware. Is 1 GB of VRAM a big difference and will 3 GB of VRAM be sufficient for most games?

Solution
Er I have a 780 which has 3gb VRAM and I game at 1080p. I have already found 3 games that I can hit 3 gb VRAM usage in and it causes instant stuttering. Ok it's very easy to fix by dropping a setting or 2 but even with an older card 3gb can limit what settings you can use. Personally if buying now I would not go less than 4gb but seeing how only 3-4 years ago 2gb was plenty I don't think 4gb gives you much headroom if games continue to ramp up VRAM requirements.
At 1080p in general right now it should be fine. However, there are games that uae more...sometines just because they can rather than need it. As I have 8gb I tend to see most games around 2.5-3gb at 2560x1080.

I've seen bo3 hit 7gb, just cause hit 3.2. I would personally not invest in a 3gb card. Especially as games are beconing more demanding and super textures being used.

Pascal has good compression apparently. I don't know how much that will help

Alright thanks guys, I will take a look at the benchmarks once it comes out and if it does horrible I'll get the RX 480. Though Nvidia should've added that 1 extra GB if they were going for the same price as the RX 480.

Yep, would've bought the 1060 6GB but price in my country is way off the original retailed price. Man, it sucks living in the South East sometimes.

Also, I've found something interesting while checking through my local store's price list.

So I expect the price of the RX 480 4GB to be about $250 in my country and now I see a 1060 6GB being sold for not too much and I feel like getting it. It's the 'MSI GTX 1060 6GB D5 T OC' for about $300. Is that the original version because I see the Gaming X below it and it's way more expensive and is there any difference between them?

Don't know. With the 480 and 1060 it comes down to price difference and budget. There is anything from 0% to 20% between them (1060 faster) so how much that is worth to you is personal. I'd say that assuming non-dx12, £30 more for the 1060 is worth it. That looks like a decent model as well.

In some places, the 1060 can be 80£ more, which for me makes it bad value especially with rx480 dx12 performance factored in.

You all miss that online prices in USA does not include VAT taxes ...

GTX 1060 in UK is only $10 more expensive than USA , take the vat out and then compare.

I lived in Europe for years .. it is not that more expensive ... People just dont know about the VAT not included in US online prices .

and pc part picker is very bad outside USA in finding good deals .. you need to search manually .

All I am saying is that yes, whilst the gap may not be huge, it certainly is cheaper.

I don't and never had used PCpartpicker, just observing that what you can get for x dollars is quite attractive vs UK prices. This is just a general observation and nothing more!

Makes no difference at all v ram dosent impact musch but it impacts when u have insufficient resources i say go with 1060 3 gb
The 6 gb gives moreperformance for nore cuda cores not ram but whats the difference for just 3-fps and all games would be runin at 70 -80 mostly 1080 p as i have checked but mafia 3 at max hits 53 fps average at ultra 1080 p 3 gb one and 55 average for 6 gb vram will impact when u arEediting

First i was aldo confused what shall i do which card 2 gb 4 gb than i got to know that vram matters for making animination as it requires much vram GTX 1060 -3gb vs 6gb-which should you buy ? By tech deals he explained this thing in video

Wait till you find a game that does. It's not so much the fps but major stuttering, it can occur at certain points. If I turn the settings up on Black Ops 3 I can still get a minimum of 60fps but on a few maps I suffer major stuttering at certain points and can see VRAM usage hitting 100%.
