Hi everyone. I am here again at tom's and I need some help to sort out what is going wrong. I have a stone-aged ASRock motherboard from 2006 (Alive Sata2 Glan) , AM2 socket, DDR2 memory. Some time ago, I found on a discussion in cpu-upgrade.com that by using a BETA bios named L2.617 (which is based on 2.60 official bios) I could be able to use AM2+ and some AM3 cpus on my old board. So with a little bit research , I bought a cheap Phenom II X3 720 BE (C2 stepping) from ebay. At start there was no noticable problems except from some reboots right after entering into windows but then the PC could run fine for 12+ hours, playing some games etc with no problem, hung or reboot. But this changed.

As I wanted to get stable FPS using Vsync , I changed the 3d settings in my Nvidia control panel. I set the "bar" from full performance to full quality. After doing so, I get frequent reboots just by trying to watch a YouTube video or play a light game (like League of Legends). I ran Prime95 & Furmark burn test at the same time to cause max power draw but it didnt reboot. Dead end again.

All these until yesterday. I thought "Why not throwing back the good old Athlon 64 to see what happens?" Well, except from the performance drop, to my great surprise, I didnt get NOT A SINGLE REBOOT , not even a Blue Screen.

The Phenom II CPU was tested for a few days on an AM3+ board, it worked flawlessly , no issues at all. Am I missing something ? Could it be a microcode BUG in my BETA L2.617 BIOS that causes problems with managing the PCIE lanes ? Is it a chipset failure ? Or something else ?

Ps. This is NOT my main PC (thankfully) but I want to make it work a bit better as a 2nd one.
Ps2. I have tested everything (RAM, HDD, PSU etc) on other systems and they worked without issues.

Thanks in advance and sorry for my long post ! Any help would be appreciated !

EDIT : I use a PCIE X16 to X1 riser (with extra molex to give power) to use my Nvidia GT440. If I use it straight in X16 slot, using the Phenom, my PC would restart sometimes even at idle state or stuck in BIOS.
