Let me first say, that im a total Noob at this. I want to upgrade my RAM. I currently have Crucial 2x1GB 128MX64 DDR3 and desperatly need to change that. I went through Crucial to see what compatible but i'm a little confused.

Crucial is telling me that my motherboard will be compatible with a:

4GB Kit (2 x 2GB) DDR3-1600 UDIMM
DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.5V • 256Meg x 64

This isnt available at my local Frys (bummer) and also ASUS is saying it can be maxed at 8GB so im trying to get a 8GB, not 4GB so im trying to look for other options. I tried to get the same thing as what Crucial is telling me but i have failed twice already.

First time i got a Patriot Viper DDR3 1600mhz 2x4GB. Recommended by the sales guy. Thought it would be ok since Crucial recommended a 1600 to me as well. Nope didnt work. Monitor wouldnt turn on.

Did more research found out my motherboard had the following:

FSB 1333/1066/800MHz
Dual-channel DDR3 1333(OC)/1066/800

Why would Crucial recommend their choice i listed above if Asus is saying otherwise?

Anyways, second time i go back to Frys told the guys the same thing and i came home with Patriot DDR3 PC3-10600 1333mhz 2x4gb kit.

SAME THING.

So now im wondering should i bite the bullet and order the 4GB (2x2GB) from crucial online even if it says 1600mhz and its only 4GB? Also i think i should mention this is for a desktop.

Im sorry if this sounds confusing, like i said im a total Noob and im trying to understand all of this so any help is GREATLY appreciated!! Thank you all.

The memory compatibility with the motherboard is more due to the architecture and density of memory chips used in the memory modules. The current memory on the market are made with high density memory ICs that aren't compatible with the G41 Chipset. You need low density memory. It is hard to find any place that still has it.

Check the reviewer with the Intel p45 chipset motherboard.
