So recently bought a second hand Asus Z97-A motherboard. So when I try to boot off motherboard I get a solid red led under processor, no other lights show up including ram. Due to lack of light for ram wondering if it is to do with ram not supported or if might be board itself. I have checked to make sure all components work including ram, processor and power supply. I am buying a motherboard speaker as I lack one so if beep codes are required I should have one by end of next week.

The only Patriot ram on the supported ram list are PV316G160C9K(XMP)

And PSD32G13332.

Altho it doesnt mean it wont work. I'm pretty sure the sticks in this which are crucial (these are DDR3L sticks) arent compatible either, but they work.

Just checked theyre not on the supported ram list either. You may have to try other ram see if that works

What CPU using?
Check if the 8 pin power cable is connected to the motherboard and if the CPU fan does spin when starting the board.
If it does, and still red CPU LED, then I suggest removing the CPU and checking the socket for bent pins.

Is it the Z-97A or the Z-97A USB 3.1?

Look at the sticker on the mobo. One of them will have a series of numbers and at the end of one of them it'll have something like 0406. This is the BIOS that maybe on it now.

The Z97A needs BIOS 1008 to support the 4690k, and BIOS 0604 for the 4790

If you've got the USB 3.1 mobo, it needs BIOS 0305 for the 4790, and 4690k

What CPU was on it before?

Needed to buy new ram anyway for computer as is second build. Thanks so much for help. Will post again when I get no ram as well as speaker.

Since same issue with 2 CPUs, and assuming that the power supply does work, I'd look for a refund for the board.
