Is there a way to attach old (user) files to a new account?

So, I had backed up my user as a whole in a backup (third party program) , wiped my hdd, clean installed win 7 and I pulled old user folder back onto the hdd in its respective place. I didn't completely expect it to work by itself so I created a new user and named it that of the old user (if that makes sense). But that didnt do the trick, all it did was cause an error to pop up and block me from using that new user account. I deleted the account and now i'm lost. Is there anyway for me to get my old desktop, files and all that stuff back where it used to be? Can I, in a sense, revive that old account of mines.

It was a win 10 account and this pc has win 7. Since win 10 is free (I think), I don't mind upgrading, but I planned on pulling all my files back onto the hdd before upgrading to win 10

Thanks!

Solution
The new user account has a different SSID, even if the name is the same.
You can't copy the whole user folder from the old user.
Instead, create a new user with whatever name you want and just copy selected files from the backup.
You should find folders in the backup for the old desktop and documents folders.
