Graphics card not running at full speed in crossfire OMAIGA!

So recently I reinstalled my windows 7 x64 onto my new SSD about 3 weeks ago. Everything is great until i started gaming on it and found out that the crossfire isnt really crossfiring. i noticed really crappy performance on all my games.

my rig is fx-8350 stock, 8gb 1866 cl10 hyper x fury, 2 x msi r7850 OC 1gb. and a 500gb samsung ssd.

so crimson says that crossfire is enabled and what not, it says both cards are linked and are running. gpuz says the same. msi afterburner says the cards are running in crossfire. BUT the thing is that when i game the second card doesnt run at the same speed as the first card.

I had set my cards at an overclock and thought maybe it was the overclock, but no, even at default speeds the second card refuses to run at over 300mhz. my video cards run at 300mhz at idle, which i find weird. I disabled ULPS in afterburner and it doesnt help. the second card still runs at 300 mhz while the main card runs at 900mhz. the only time both cards run at the same speed is during the stress test in GPU-Z. but during every other game i play the first card runs at 900mhz and the second at 300mhz. why?

why has this happened :( i didnt have this problem with my old hard drive. probably because i had catalyst on that one and upgraded to crimson. but i had never reinstalled windows on that drive until i got my new ssd.

also, why doesnt crimson let me adjust the power efficiency settings on my cards?

Have you installed the latest windows updates? The latest video card drivers and motherboard drivers? Sounds like a driver issue somewhere and the cards aren't actually in xfire mode. Try swapping the cards around. See if its something wrong with the 2nd card or if the problem stays in the 2nd slot. Make sure everything is enabled on the motherboard that needs to be as well. If you just did a fresh windows install on the ssd im betting you are missing a driver somewhere.

i switched the cards around yesterday, and it was the same. i reinstalled the latest crimson driver which came out a couple of days ago and nothing. i flashed the mobo bios and got all the latest drivers for it. im checking for windows 7 updates but that might take a whole day, i dont know why it takes forever to look for them.

im checking to see if the drivers i have are up to date. the only driver that i know im missing is for my wireless adaptor which is currently disabled because im plugged in through ethernet.

and no, all the software is saying the cards are running in crossfire, the problem is that the second card doesnt go above 300mhz. i disbled ULPS in regedit too and my cards both run at 300mhz at idle. the second card doesnt get off idle when i game, only during the gpu-z stress test.

currently, im playing no man's sky, world of tanks, world of warships, YS I, Ace Combat Assault Horizon, Oceanhorn, evolve stage 2 and payday 2.

all these games have the same problem right now where the second card doesnt go past 300mhz. i didnt have this problem before my reinstall.

Hmm. I guess you have tried disabling and re enabling xfire. Are you using a xfire bridge cable? Also you can specify what programs to run xfire/sli in specifically so perhaps somehow its turned off in those games? I know with nvidia cards i can specify sli on or off in specific games like have it on when playing BF4 and off when playing division but still have the global setting turned on. It just turns it off for the division. Thats really odd but im betting its a windows update. Go to the windows update webpage and manually make it get the updates that way. Should not take long for it to look and find them.

Whats the gaming performance like?
From my knowledge those titles dont support Crossfire, but you would have to look it up.

Maybe try running a synthetic benchmark like 3D Mark (you can get a trial version from steam). These benchmarks support crossfire and SLI and can be used to check if your second card is being used.

I ran resident evil revelations and that game ran perfectly with crossfire, so does skyrim. deus ex HR runs perfectly too, i didnt have this problem with world of tanks and warships 2 months ago.

and i got the skydiving benchmark from 3dmark and my computer froze and locked up. wtf. i dont have an overclock right now. :'(

edit: the performance on WoT and WoWS is alright. i get around 60fps at 1080p usually a little bit above. but with no mans sky i get around 30 at 1080p at default settings.

no mans sky right now is terrible. Its all over the web about how bad it runs on pc. Sounds like the other games u are playing dont support dual card setup and you are maybe just now noticing. If it works in synthetic benchmarks and the other games you listed and just doesnt work in WOT and warships parhaps those do not actually support it. With nvidia cards you can force alternate frame rendering which makes the game run sli whether it supports it or not. Perhaps amd has that same setting?

maybe they can, but the crimson control center thingy has very limited options to what i can do to my video cards :(

thanks. looks like i need to upgrade to the rx480 then. :(

Yeah 1gb cards just dont cut it anymore, the new minimum is a least 2gb-3gb

i didnt have this problem before crimson. i remember being able to turn off the ULPS setting somewhere so the graphics cards ran at fullspeed all the time. sure my electricity bill was super high but my gaming performance was amazing.

edit: just noticed something too. everytime i reboot or boot up my pc crossfire is always disabled. why the hell is it doing that?

i doubt they will want to help, i bought the cards new years ago and i have replaces the thermal paste on them several times.

i think ima get a complete driver removal tool and reinstall the video drivers. see if that helps.

well an entirely new problem has risen. i ran 3d mark benchmark and the screen flickered and went black. i restarted my PC and after the windows splash screen the screen stays black. i reinstalled windows 7 again. everything was fine untill i installed the latest amd video driver. i got an error saying that open gl2 is missing or something along those lines. i rebooted the computer after it was finished installing and black screen again.

i get into safe mood and im able to see again. im currently typing from a fresh install with no video drivers. the only drivers i have are the audio, the usb3, the lan and chipset drivers. i am currently installing 16.7 drivers and see if it works.

hmmm no dice. when i install any video driver i get an error saying that open gl couldnt install and the screen stays black after reboot. i can go into safe mode and uninstall the video driver and can get back to desktop again. im currently repairing framework and waiting for the stupid windows updates to start finding updates to see if that helps.
