Different GPU loads in sli

Hi everyone.
Im currently in the process of overclocking two msi 970 gaming in sli.

Ive been geting crashes in heaven with only 80+ core clock. 70+ seems fine. I know i might just be unlucky but it feels terribly low compared to other people ocs. Ive checked gpuz and have found everything seems to be syncing together. Operating at same speeds and what not. Expect for the load. 25% difference between the two cards. Could this be causing instability?

I went into nvidia control panel and physix was set to auto select. I chose one card as dedicated. Loads have balanced between the two cards.

Im running tests again. (Such a slow process, and frustrating at times haha) time will tell but do you rekon the imbalanced loads could be the cause of crashes or am i wasting my time?

One more quick question. If i crash once on any benchmarking tool. Is my oc deemed unstable?

Appreciate any feed back.

The problem is that in SLI, the card closest to the CPU always runs hotter. This is because SLI is not perfect, in that the main card will often be more loaded than the secondary. The other reason is that the top card is sandwiched between the CPU and the bottom card.

Here's what you need to do - First, make sure your case air flow is up to snuff. Second, you need to find out which card is the better overclocker. Test each one individually with only that card in the machine. Put the card that overclocks better on TOP - because that is the card that will always run hotter. This way the better card may run hotter, but since it's the one with more OC headroom anyway, it should balance out.

Thanks for your words of wisdom. Im gunna get stuck into that after an hour or so more testing.

Fyi my temps never exceed 70c. The hottest card that is. And since i have chosen one of the cards for physix instead of auto in nvidia control panel. Gpu loads are balanced. Whereas before they were like 25 to 30 perecent difference. It appears to be stable thus far. Touch wood. Over an hour. Unlike before. Which was like 20mins. Do you think the imbalanced loads could of been my underlying issue? Continuing tests with heaven + prime95 for good measure.

Much appreciated what youve told me btw. Cheers

Physx in Heaven? I've read that it's not supported - I just tried it on my machine, and the card I dedicated to Physx was at 0% usage. Unfortunately, the imbalanced load is inevitable with SLI - that's why you want to give the weaker the card the lighter load to maximize the OC.
