I'm trying to connect two sites over a VPN to access a particular shared folder. I'm just using the basic Windows VPN client. The host computer is on 7, the client computer is on 10.

I am able to have the vpn connect just fine, my issue is that I can't see any of the shared folders. I've tried using both the computer name and ip adress to access then, i.e. \server\shared and 10.1.x.x.\shared Neither works.

And odd anomaly I've found is that if I have "Use default gateway on remote network" checked I lose internet on the client side, but the hose computer can see the shared folders on the client computer, jut not the other way around.

I'd love some suggestions on this, I'm about to pull my hair out. I've never had this kind of issue setting up a vpn before.

i don't think your VPN is actually working. I've never seen a working implementation between client operating systems. What you are trying to do may work in theory but . . . .you may have to replace the windows 7 device with something that actually does VPNs in the real world, like a windows server, or a router.
