CPU Temp High, GPU load low

Hi, this is my first post here. I've looked through previous threads and found what may be the issue, but I'm not too knowledgeable on computers and my PC is a notebook, not built. Anyway, there is only 2 things that happened before this issue started - a Windows 8.1 update and dropping my computer. I'm pretty sure the latter is the cause.

I have an ASUS notebook with a GTX 860m and i7 4700hq processor. For months of playing overwatch (low graphics, display based FPS) it's always ran at ~70 celcius running at a constant 60 fps due to display based mode. After I dropped the notebook, the temperature never goes above 53 celcius and the FPS constantly fluxes between 20-60. I've even see it go above 70 in display based mode...

I used HWMonitor to check my CPU temps and my browsing value is ~60 celcius and jumps all the way to 80+ when launching overwatch. The GPU temp is very low and won't go up. The fans are also working so I don't think fans are involved with the problem.

If something happened with the CPU cooling system when I dropped the notebook, what do you recommend I do? I'm pretty sure the source of the problem is extremely high CPU temperatures.

Please let me know what you think could be a solution. I have GPUZ/CPUZ/etc if you need more information. Also, I'd be glad to learn about the technical part of the issue. Assuming the drop caused an issue, let me know how to figure out exactly what it affected and how I can solve it with a notebook. Thank you.

I've never considered it because my notebook is very good at cooling. It's one of the 'gamer series' notebooks, with the large back fans. Would this fix the issue of my CPU temps? I don't want to dump in money in a cooling unit if the problem is internal such as if it's related to the motherboard or something. That's why I'd really like to diagnose it further - but I'm not sure how to.

Those temperatures are high but not so much to cause such a problem. Have you tried seeing if you are having the same fps drops on other games? Have you tried to see if any other application like a Anti Virus or something is eating your Cpu or Disk usage? Have you upgraded your graphics drivers? It is highly possible that you could have damaged some components of your PC.

Also a good laptop cooler can be easily bought for just around $20. It can significantly drop temperatures and allow for a longer sustained gaming session with better frame rates.

I appreciate the reply. There's nothing eating up CPU/Disk usage. I tried reinstalling Nvidia graphics drivers already, but I haven't upgraded in the sense of a new GPU. I do believe I damaged some components, however, I'd really like to diagnose which components to gauge the severity. As for the laptop cooler, I'll absolutely buy one for now because these CPU temps have to be wearing the computer down fast.

Also, I made another thread with more detail (I hope this is appropriate, I just figured this post wasn't detailed enough at all). The link is: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3156177/significant-problems-dropping-laptop-gpu-cpu-heating-throttling.html

Please let me know what you think, thank you!
