Cleaning instructions for the HP 6110 All-in-one printer worked the first time but not tonight...

Even after cleaning the mirrors underneath the cartridge and both sides of the main glass plate, the cartridge motor still keeps trying to adjust the starting position (grinding/clicking sound) so it will not print; eventually times out with a "Scanner Failure - Turn power off then on again."
Any further tips?

Thanks for the prompt reply. I've been retrying but now the scanner consistently fails to start without this error. Can the scanner be disabled so I can at least print? If not, can you recommend the next best approach - e.g. take it to the Geek Squad or a local repair shop to determine the root cause of the scanner cartridge misalignment ?

did you try to print even with the error message on the screen? because i have a HP printer too, with a scaner problem and, even with the printer looking like a christmas tree with all the lights blinking saying that is a scaner malfunction, the printer still can do the job.
now if it refuses to print with the scaner problem, there is nothing you can do because even you disconnect the scaner electronics from the printer, there will be the scanner function on the printer firmware that you can´t disable, so i think is time for a new printer.

Thanks for your reply.. Yes I tried printing despite the Scanner error, but nogo - the print file remains in the printer queue; The scanner cartridge acts like it is simply not sensing the returned position correctly, hence the motor keeps trying to move the cartridge to the right even after it hits the right side of the guide bar -far right position. Since I cleaned the mirrors underneath the cartridge are you aware of any other sensors or lens that I may have missed? Also do you know which sensor is responsible for detecting the starting position? Is there a reset button or function to re-calibrate the motor/drive mechanism? This should not require replacing the entire machine. BTW, I tried unplugging the connector to the motor on the top back right which drives the belt for the cartridge but that just results in a Scanner Error - it did not allow me to bypass the scanner so I could just print.

Oddly after about a week or so, the Scanner error disappeared, at least for the time being. I had the printer powered down most of the interim time.. So far we are back in business..
