Asus Crashfree BIOS 3 motherboard feature

Hi, if anyone has better understanding or experience with this feature, could you explain it to me? Is the software for the process stored separately from the BIOS chip? Or is it an unerasable part of the chip? If not how can it work in case of BIOS update failure?
Also, is it similar to BIOS Flashback from X99 motherboards? From what I've understood Flashback doesn't require a CPU, but does this?
Specific motherboard I'm talking about is H170 Pro Gaming.

There would be a chip that would allow the Crashfree to work. I believe it only works once it detects the bios is corrupted. It is still possible to be corrupted when flashing if you have a sudden power loss.
USB BIOS Flashback has another chip that can specifically reflash the bios from a usb device without a cpu or ram, only power.

Yes, I know how it works from the manual but is it a function separated from the BIOS? Can it get corrupted by flashing?

And how can BIOS Flashback I mentioned work without CPU and RAM? How can it overwrite the BIOS chip without a CPU?

So, you would say it's a safe/reliable feature, since BIOS flashing has always been somewhat risky?
 


It's only risky if you allow it. As long you don't have power loss, it should not get corrupted.
USB BIOS Flashback is more useful and practical than Crashfree BIOS but it's only on selected high end boards.

But if you have a fully built system, both do the task they're supposed to, right?

Another question: for the USB Flashback, do you have to have your EPS cable connected or only ATX (24-pin)? I've seen a guide that says both but EPS is for CPU power, right?
 


Yes if it is flashing over a corrupt bios.
I would plug both cables just to be sure.
