Magnet in Noctua Redux fan makes case magnetic. Help?

I went to install my NF-P14s redux, and I noticed it was attracted to the chassis, next thing I know, the plug for it was attracting to the metal where I set it down. I put screws near the case and I can feel it pulling them, even after I've taken the fan out. Is this normal, and can this cause problems for hard drives?

Solution

If magnets inside a fan were a problem for hard drives, we would have known this a few decades ago.
Additionally, the magnet INSIDE the hard drive is about 1,000 times stronger than anything in a fan.

The magnets inside hard drives are scary strong and down right dangerous. The term "rare Earth" magnet gets thrown around but I don't know if something special is attributed to these magnets because of the term. I do know that if you catch a finger in between, it will feel like you just slammed your hand in a car door. I learn best from experience. Best analogy I can come up with is about the force of a solid rat trap. They are no joke and can draw blood or leave you with a very mean blood blister.

If your case is made from steel, yes, it can become magnetized in the same way rubbing a magnet onto a screw-driver can enable the screw-driver to pick up screws. If you have an aluminum case, nope.

Rare Earth
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rare_earth_element
In terms of magnets - Neodymium

Or, the other Rare Earth

That's the one! :D
