If you don't want to read the whole thing the base is my CPU is running around 50C to 78C under load, I did pea size dot with credit card spread on my hyper 212 evo connection plate, not on my CPU.
So when i first built my PC, i had no idea how to apply the thermal paste. I did the research and decided to do the credit card spread. that has worked until i decided to redo my thermal paste. I first cleaned the heat sink and the CPU with rubbing alcohol and paper towels. I let it sit for about 10 minutes to let the alcohol dry. I used the old container of Arctic Silver 5 and did the pea size dot in the middle method. that did not work at all. When very first turned it on it turned off after 3 seconds or so. I turned it on again and was able to get to the BIOS for a split second and saw that the temperature was at 80C. So i immediately turned it off to try to save it from burning up. I then took it back apart, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and paper towels, and did the center dot but added more until it was about a size of two peas. This actually worked and let me used the computer but it was running at 60C idle temp. If I were to try anything it instantly got too hot and I would shut it off. I cleaned it the same way as before but this time in lines and on the cooler instead of the CPU. Since the Hyper 212 is not totally flat i tried to fill in the gaps by doing the lines on it cooler. Put it back together and was running still same temp as my second attempt. So i took it apart AGAIN, cleaned it the same way and did the credit card smear on the cooler, I was hoping it would fill in the gaps between the copper and metal so it would have a flush connection. i turned it on and now it actually runs very cool, but very random. At idle i can see it from 19 C to about 40C depending on opening the internet and such, but while using 3D Mark 11 Demo, it can jump from 50C up to 78C and i still dont really like it running at 78C. I tried to be detailed so you guys know what i have done to get it running cool. Any help will be great!
