As the title says - I'm looking for a bus-powered GPU. Ideally, not just bus-powered, but also one that doesn't get too hot as I have an mITX case (210mm max length, would prefer at least a little smaller for ease of install). My goal is to have a system where I can leave my PC on gaming for a while, leave the room briefly, and not notice any difference in air temperature.
I can't tell the difference north of about 25-30 FPS, so if one (like the RX 460) does worse with DX11, but is still good enough to hit those numbers, that's totally fine with me. Similarly, if the GTX 950 is just a little behind the RX 460 in DX12 and both should start struggling at about the same time, that's good to know, too. I guess the third option is wait until the GTX 1050 arrives if people are that confident it will be bus-powered. I currently play a lot of Marvel Heroes 2016, Lego games, some indie titles, and some older titles. I typically wait until games are on sale for $5-10 on Steam before buying them, so something like Tomb Raider is now in that range, but would eat my current card for lunch.
Super important here - I have no bias towards one company or the other. I've typically bounced back and forth between the two companies. Please keep your comments to which is better and why, not get the _________ because "history says" or "why would you get the other brand"?...I've seen those types of comments on threads regarding higher end cards.
I have a Skylake CPU more than capable of pushing any of these cards so I'm not worried about that being the bottleneck. My monitor is an older 1080p/60 Hz display. I would plan on probably upgrading my GPU once more in a few years before I upgrade both CPU/GPU again. I'm currently using a Radeon 7750 and can still come close to maxing out most of the games I currently play. I just know there are some titles I would be looking at low-med settings, if they'll boot. While I can't see the difference in frame rate, I see the difference boosting visuals.
Lastly, for what it's worth, I see a GTX 950 on newegg for like $110 after a rebate. I don't know if the 460/950 debate is how close they are per dollar or something else. Honestly, I haven't found much on the 460 yet. All I've heard is the 460 does better with DX12 and the 950 in DX11. I'm probably more interested in DX12 numbers since I would imagine future games will be using it and that would give me more head room to keep my card longer. While I can't see the difference in FPS, I realize a card that can barely run a current AAA title on ultra/high at 30 FPS probably isn't running the next big AAA title that comes out a couple months later. So in that regard, I do care about FPS.
Thanks
